The most frequently seen shelter design was commissioned by top local firm, Ong & Ong Architects. To project the shelter as part of an efficient and modern public transport system, a conscious effort has been made to streamline the structure, allowing the natural elegance of the roof to emerge like a ‘sail-like’ membrane. The lightness of the roof reflects a certain tropicality that is at once modern and local.
The basic structural elements are standardized; therefore, the shelter achieves an increased flexibility in allowing for modular add-ons. The basic module can be assembled in lengths of 3m grids, a configuration that caters to different site constraints and passenger loadings.
Provision has been made for the optional inclusion of panels that allow for larger-sized graphics (see 12-sheet or Media Portals under “Products”). This allows each shelter to be graphically ‘customisable’, and increases visibility and impact.
